Teacher and Students

Capital City Community Centers is committed to helping disadvantaged members of our community to develop and maintain the education, employment, life and social skills they need to live healthy and productive lives.  We have a long and diverse history. The organization was founded in 1945 as the Smith Hill Girls Club, but ten years later the club became co-ed and expanded its services. The agency continued to grow, adding its first childcare program in 1959, a senior program a decade later and eventually a fully licensed childcare program that is still in operation today.

Our programs are designed to meet diverse needs and are targeted to individuals of all ages:

  • An exceptional licensed early childhood learning center serving toddlers and preschoolers ages 18 months to five years;
  • A high-quality licensed Before and After School Program serving 120 school-aged children;
  • A stimulating Summer Enrichment Program for over 100 of our community’s most at-risk children;
  • A wide range of Prevention Programs, including Drug Free Communities and Can We Talk RI?;
  • Compassionate non-clinical case management serving over one thousand individuals each year with food, clothing and emergency services and;
  • The Capital City Senior Program engaging senior citizens in social services and health and social activities.

Capital City Community Centers receives funding from diverse sources, including federal, state and city grants and reimbursements, client fees, private foundation grants, corporate contributions and individual donations.
